News from the coffee world.
- Sara Lee sells food service coffee operations to Smucker. Also announces that Senseo coffee will no longer be sold in U.S. by next year, so Sara Lee pretty much out of North American coffee business; will concentrate on Europe.
- Rogers Family Coffee comes out with a K-Cup alternative for Keurig brewers. OneCups are cheaper than K-Cups.
- The New York Times runs a series called “Scientist at Work.” Over a period of a few weeks, scientists around the world send dispatches about their field work. One of the current scientists is a researcher studying mammals in coffee farms in Costa Rica. The first installment is How Coffee Affects Biodiversity.
