Things on this page: Links to recommended items on Amazon, product reviews, alternatives to K-Cups, coffee books on Kindle, books about birds and biodiversity in the coffee lands, and current promotions and specials from select roasters.

I write this site because I have a passion for coffee and a career as a bird ecologist — and many of the birds I study spend the winter in coffee farms. My experience as an ecologist in this field, I think, makes me uniquely qualified to write on the intersection of coffee and conservation. I hope I provide an authoritative, unbiased look at the issues surrounding coffee and its impact on the environment that people find useful. I appreciate your support of this site through your readership, comments, and purchases made through affiliate links that help pay for my web hosting, research, and associated costs. Thanks so much.

Many of the products that I recommend are all gathered at the
Coffee & Conservation Amazon store

Product reviews, featuring alternatives to K-Cups

I have reviewed a number of  coffee-related products. Reviews can be found by looking through the posts in this category archive.

Among the most popular of these reviews are the ones explaining the various alternative to the ridiculously wasteful K-Cups for Keurig brewers, which dominate the U.S. single-serve market. I strongly believe that if you really feel you have to have one of these brewers, you should use your own (sustainably-grown) coffee in them. Here are some of the best ways to do it:

Coffee books on Kindle

I have quite a few books listed in my Amazon store. I am personally a big fan of Kindle reading devices, and this widget shows coffee books that are available on Kindle as well as free eBook reading apps available from Amazon (hover over image for arrows to scroll through choices).

Bird and biodiversity books

Interested not just in coffee, but also the birds and biodiversity that depend on coffee lands? Here are some excellent books that will introduce you to the roots of my passion.

Roaster specials

I am not affiliated with any roasters and don’t receive a commission for any sales by them. But I do believe in supporting roasters that source sustainable coffee (you can see a list of them on the bottom of each page, and read about how I came up with the list here).  Below I will list various promotions, coupon codes, and specials being offered by select roasters in North America as they become available.

  • Equator Coffees — Free ground shipping on orders over $35 — use code “VALENTINE“. Expires February 29.
  • PT’s Coffee — 19% off coffee orders in celebration of their 19th anniversary. Use code “19YRSAGO“. Expires March 6.
  • Golden Valley Farms — Free shipping on all orders over $35 (no coupon needed) or free shipping on gift boxes (coupon code “FREEGIFTSHIP“). Limited time.
