Cameron’s Coffee is a Port Perry, Ontario roaster that has really pulled out all the stops to be eco-friendly.
Business practices:
- It gets its electricity from Bullfrog Power, which sources electricity exclusively from wind and low-impact water power producers.
- Fuel-efficient delivery vehicle runs on biodiesel.
- Labels are printed with vegetable-based inks using a waterless printing process.
- Facility has radiant floor heating and high-efficiency light bulbs, and they use eco-friendly cleaning products.
- They recycle their chaff and grinds as packing material and/or donate to local farmers.
- Uses reusable tins to deliver coffee in local markets (many places in southwest Ontario).
- Retail package (small gift crate) is made of Forest Stewardship Council certified wood.
As for the coffee,
- They are a licensee of SMBC Bird-Friendly coffee, but I didn’t note any offerings that were specifically labeled such.
- Offer a solar dried coffee from the Costa Rican co-op Montes De Oro.
- Many Fair Trade and organic coffees.
Online purchasing is available, but I didn’t go through the process to see if they ship to the U.S. I know due to import/export laws that it has become cost-prohibitive for Americans to buy coffee from Canada. If anybody tries Cameron’s Coffee, let me know!
